1 John 1:1-4 is a very great passage to study. It could be the key passage of the whole Bible Story. The whole
Old Testament pointed to that moment when the promised Messiah would show up.
And I John 1:1-4 is about Apostle John’s proclamation of his personal testimony
and witness of the God Incarnate in Christ Jesus-the Messiah showing up.
The New Testament is all about Jesus Christ and life in Him. Without the full certainty that John provides about the reality of the Incarnation, we would be at a loss, especially that there is such a lot of attacks upon the true God and His Son Jesus Christ.
John wrote his first epistle to defend the truth of the Incarnation and the Lord Jesus Christ. His stand is so genuine. He wrote his letter some sixty years after he walked with Jesus Christ physically. Against all the attacks of the Gnostics and heretics, he stood up in his probably 80’s or 90’s to reaffirm publicly that all about Jesus Christ that he and other apostles and disciples witnessed were absolutely genuine and true. Had it not been so, I don’t think that such an elderly aged man would be so concerned to combat the antichrists. Why would he bother if he knew deep down in his heart that he was deceived by Jesus, if he had experienced an illusion or hallucination when he had been the close companion of Jesus for more than three years? He would not bother at all, especially as such an old man nearing death. No, he could not help it. He had to speak for the Truth just like years ago, in the Book of Acts, when the rulers, elders, and scribes ordered him not to preach and teach in the name of Jesus, he could not but answer them in Acts 4:19-20:
“Whether it’s right in the sight of God for us to listen to you rather than to God, you decide; for we are unable to stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.”
