Living the "agape" life

The basic or foundational instruction of God to us, His created human beings, is to love Him and one another wholeheartedly (Matthew 22:37-39; John 13:34-35). This love is what we call “agape” in Greek. agape is what we need to live out.
A little description of agape is given in I Corinthians 13:4-8:

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”(NIV)

To be able to live the agape life, one needs to be filled with God’s Holy Spirit; otherwise it is just impossible to love everybody as God does. To receive the Holy Spirit, we need to repent of our sins, ask God for His forgiveness, believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and receive Him in our hearts. We can say a prayer like this:

“ O God, I am a sinner. I repent of all my sins. Please forgive me. I believe in Your son Jesus Christ as My Lord and Savior. I welcome Him in my heart now. I have decided to follow Him for the rest of my life. Thank You, Lord, for filling me right now with Your Holy Spirit. Amen.”

When we receive the Holy Spirit, and are willing to do God’s will always, we will manifest the fruit of the Holy Spirit as listed in Galatians 5:22-23:

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (NIV).

If we look more closely, we will notice that agape love, as described in I Corinthians 13:4-8, does include all the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Love is patient (patience), love is kind (kindness). It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude (gentleness), it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered (self-control), it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices (joy) with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres (peace/goodness/faithfulness). An agape life is a Holy Spirit-filled life. A Holy Spirit-filled life is an agape life.

May we all live the agape or Spirit-filled life. May we all be led in our daily living by agape (God’s love) and by the Holy Spirit.

"O Lord God, may your agape and Holy Spirit prevail all over the world. So be it, O Lord! Amen."

Praise, honor, and glory be to Our Lord God now and forever.

Lost and found by My Savior Jesus Christ

Growing up as a teenager, I had a lot of questions like:

What is my origin? Why do I exist? Does God exist?
What is my identity? Who am I?
What is my purpose? How should I live? What is right and what is wrong? What is true happiness?
What is my destiny? What happens to me after I die? Is there life after death? Are heaven and hell real? If so, how can I get to heaven? What do the Bible and other religious books have to do with my future and me? I desperately needed to know the truth, to fill the void and emptiness that I sensed and felt more and more in my heart, as I lived longer and longer in this world. I longed to be enlightened.

One day, I was invited to attend a Christian youth rally. I heard for the first time the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a way that touched and challenged me personally. The preacher had quoted John 14:6, where Jesus declared:"I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me". I had been looking for the Way to heaven, the Truth to live an authentic life and the Life which is abundant, eternal and truly happy. I had not found fulfilling answers anywhere until I finally decided to believe and yielded my heart to Jesus Christ, and to follow Him. No turning back. This was the absolutely most important and vital decision that I ever made and will make in my whole life. Jesus Christ is indeed the Way, the Truth and the Life. I understood that:
Jesus Christ is the Way to Heaven, to true Wisdom, Success, Happiness, Prosperity, Joy, Love, Peace, and Contentment. Jesus is the Truth personified, Truth that prevails, conquers, enlightens, sets free, liberates, illuminates, dispels darkness, lies, and hypocrisy. Jesus is the Life that is true, pure, holy, authentic, real, humble, wise, good, noble, abundant, victorious, successful, blessed, and everlasting.

I was so touched that Jesus Christ has found me and saved me when I was so empty and miserable. My whole outlook was radically changed. I got a brand new worldview-the biblical worldview. I was amazed at my own transformation in spirit, soul and mind. I became a completely new creation. I had started living in the Truth and in Agape love. God had filled me with His Holy Spirit. I understood that I was made in God's image. I am a child of God. I am a witness to the Truth and I will spend eternity in Heaven. I became a positive, optimistic, hopeful, and purposeful person, with the good news of salvation in Christ Jesus to offer to others. O Amazing Grace! I once was lost but now am found! Was blind but now I see!

Without my Lord, I can do nothing. He is my Everything, my All in All. I have already tasted my Lord's grace and mercy, love and compassion, provision and protection, throughout all these long past blessed years. God is so faithful and true! Indeed,

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters,
He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness for His Name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
For You are with me...

I testify that goodness and mercy have followed me as I followed My Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Christmas

Christmas is the celebration of the Word made flesh, that is, God who came down to us some two thousand years ago, in the form of a human baby, in Bethlehem, Israel. The God-baby is Jesus Christ. He was born of the virgin Mary. We can read the story in God's Word, the Bible, in the Gospel of Luke. This event had already been prophesied in the Old Testament many centuries ago.
Praise and glory to God Most High for sending Jesus Christ at the perfect time in History. We do not know exactly the date of His birth. However, it is traditional worldwide to celebrate this miraculous birth of Our Savior on every December 25th.

Happy birthday Jesus!

May everyone who has not yet received Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior do so before it is too late. After we leave this world through physical death, it will be impossible to get saved from Hell to Heaven, from death unto eternal abundant life. For God's Word declares solemnly in Hebrews 9:27,

"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment"

"O Lord, may Your Grace and Mercy be upon us all!
In the Name of Jesus Christ, Our lord and Savior, Amen."

"God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life" John 3:16

Why excel in Mathematics?

We must do our best in mathematics to glorify Our Lord God. Mathematics is one of the greatest God-given tools to His children worldwide enabling and empowering them to fulfill His First Commission of subduing and ruling His Earth (Gen. 1:26-28) and His Great Commission of making disciples of all ethnic groups and people groups in His World (Mat. 28:18-20). Mathematics contributes most significantly towards the execution of God's Great Commission through Technology. Radio, telephone, television, video, CD, DVD, microphone, computer, internet, u tube, iPod, airplane, ship, vehicle, printer, and all other technological means of communication do facilitate our sharing of the gospel to lost peoples all over the earth, even the uttermost parts. All these technologies came into being through mathematical calculations and continuously use mathematics to function and operate.

Through mathematics problem-solving, we learn to:

-appreciate our wise, orderly, and majestic Creator,
-cultivate our character in Christ, and
-prepare ourselves and others for great careers.

Mathematics as worship-builder

Mathematical studies reveal the character and attributes of God such as order and orderliness (not confusion), consistency, precision, harmony, beauty, and majesty. (I Corinthians 14:40; Psalm 19:1-4; Romans 1:19-20; Psalm 147:1-5, 50:6; Jeremiah 31:35-37). Mathematical studies can instill an awe, adoration, and worship of God (Psalm 8:3-9; Jeremiah 33:22; Colossians 1:16-17; Psalm 139:14; Romans 11:33-36).

In mathematics, we encounter transcendental numbers like e (2.718281828...), Pi (3.14159265...), golden mean/ratio/rectangle Phi (1.618...), Fibonacci sequence, Pascal's triangle, fractal geometry and infinity. All these are so wonderful. One can appreciate colors, shapes, sizes, symmetries, patterns, harmony, majesty, power, mystery, and transcendence in mathematics and mathematical numbers. Thus, mathematics helps us to appreciate God's creation, and God, the Creator Himself. It is so awesome and fabulous when we study mathematics with the biblical worldview perspective. We cannot help but admire, adore, and worship the Holy One who created this fascinating world including the intelligence to study all kinds of subjects and mathematics.

Mathematics as character-builder

Mathematics is the kind of discipline that exercises one’s patience and self-control. We certainly cannot best solve problems if we do not persevere patiently in following the necessary steps towards finding the solutions. We cannot be restless or hyperactive or careless or inattentive or impatient or overexcited or unmotivated or pessimistic if we are to best succeed in mathematics problem-solving. In fact, good self-control and calmness do help in mathematics problem-solving.

We have great opportunities in math studies to express love, joy, peace, kindness, and goodness when we kindly interact and help each other to understand the concepts and procedures in solving the mathematical problems. A heart filled with God's peace, kindness, and goodness would help enormously in communicating more successfully our findings and solutions of mathematical problems to others, and in conveying our knowledge and understanding to our audience.

Learning and teaching mathematics do exercise and cultivate qualities and virtues. Mathematics promotes, for example:

Analytical skills,
Brilliance of mind,
Curiosity and Creativity,
Discipline,
Efficiency and effectiveness, Excellence,
Fascination,
Goal-setting,
Honesty,
Insight and Integrity,
Judiciousness,
Keenness,
Logic,
Methodical approach,
Numeracy skills,
Organizational skills and objectivity,
Planning skills,
Quality,
Reasoning power,
Spatial ability,
Thinking skills,
Uprightness,
Versatility,
Wisdom,
"Y"-mind ("Why"mindedness and higher-order thinking), and
 Zest.

Wise employers look for as many of the above characteristics as possible in their prospective employees. Thus, mathematics is also a great potential career-builder.

Mathematics as career-builder

Mathematics is one of the most relevant and practical subjects that exists. It is so applicable in all kinds of fields imaginable. It is used in the fields of accountancy, banking, commerce, trade, zoo-keeping, firefighting, astronomy, forestry service, skateboard park design, spectacular fireworks, music amplifier design, stock exchange, engineering, car design, sciences, air travel, laboratories, surveying, chemistry, film-making, criminology, navy, and many many more.

The world needs people equipped with higher-order thinking skills: deductive and inductive reasoning power, logical, analytical, critical thinking skills, creative thinking skills, and entrepreneurship which can all be developed through mathematics problem-solving.

Conclusion

Mathematics is a great God-given tool enabling and empowering God's children to contribute towards the execution of His Greatest Commandment and His New Commandment of living out agape love, His First Commission of good efficient stewardship of His world, and His Great Commission of making disciples. Besides being a 'fun' subject with all kinds of entertaining games, riddles and puzzles, mathematics can be a wonderful worship, character, and career builder. We do need to encourage and promote excellence in mathematics to the glory, praise, and honor of Our God and for the blessing of the world.

True Education

Goal/Purpose of Education

True education is learning and teaching and obeying everything that God's Word, the Bible commands us. The purpose and goal of education is to honor and glorify God through helping students become true disciples of Jesus Christ.

Selection/Scope/Sequencing of Subject Matter

The entire curriculum must be Christ and Bible centered. Truth and knowledge must be unified through Jesus Christ. The teacher, being Christ's representative has a key role in this unifying process. He/She is the "living curriculum" himself/herself.

The student should
1. Clearly comprehend the distinctiveness of the biblical worldview.
2. Fully understand how the biblical worldview connects with every aspect of the world around us and
3. Know why the biblical worldview makes more sense than any other worldview out there.

Teaching Profession

The Nature of the Learning Process

We learn to know God through the Bible, the Person of Jesus Christ and His creation (Romans 1:20). Hence, the school subjects reveal the Lord. The students can know Him in and through the school subjects/disciplines.

The Nature of The Student

A conversion or born-again experience is an absolute vital necessity for any student. Without conversion to Christ, the student can never really attain his or her full God-given potential that he or she had been created for. After conversion to Christ, the student needs to grow and mature in Christ. This is provided for through the Bible, the Word of God. So, with reverential awe, the student should learn to love, obey, and serve God and Man more and more fully. He or she must learn to walk in the Truth and through faith, manifests the fruit of the Holy Spirit in all kinds of good works.

The Role of Parents

Parents have the moral responsibility to bring up their children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). Parents should train their children faithfully to help them stay on the right path and learn godly habits. The children should actually be able to observe the truth being modeled by their parents.

The Role of The Teacher

The teacher lives out Christ-likeness among his/her students. He/She bears the fruit of the Holy Spirit consistently. Teachers are image bearers of God. Being an educator is a vocation and a spiritual ministry that has passion and purpose. The teacher is a representative of Christ and His Truth among the students. The teacher should himself/herself follow Jesus Christ as his/her Model Teacher. His students are to follow him/her as he/she follows Christ. The teacher is gentle and humble in heart. He/She stands in the place of Christ for the student into the learning journey.

Thinking and teaching is not only a science but also an art, and its effectiveness depends heavily on the level of the teacher's own communion with God. If we can see the Lord in His World, we will find ways to speak of Him.

The Spirit-filled teacher is the communicator of Truth. He/She is openly and boldly a Christian. He/She knows the Word of God. He/She is committed in every aspect of his/her life and work, in all his/her being, to the Truth. He/She seeks excellence. He/She truly loves his/her students, seeking their highest good even when at times the way may be hard. He/She is completely submitted to the one Great Teacher. He/She listens to the Lord, and the Holy Spirit, for his/her lessons.

Education is a supernatural task. The presence of God's Holy Spirit in teaching takes education beyond mere programming, methodology and techniques. A teacher must constantly test his/her teaching to see if it is resulting in spiritual growth in his/her pupils.

Conclusion

Education should enable students to cultivate a Christlike character manifesting consistently the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23,26; Colossians 3:12-15; Ephesians 4:2) and certain skills in order to be ready for what God has planned for their lives. These skills include biblical knowledge, strong reading skills, effective oral communication, mathematical competence, higher order thinking and reasoning skills, discernment, social skills, and technical skills.
